If you are interested in Go, you will have a fun read. I learned the following: lesson 1 “The Art of Thinking” - think before making each move in Go. In lesson 2 “Strong and Weak Stones”, - the importance of knowing which groups of stones are strong and weak to help you make your next move. In lesson 7 “Judgement”- two key considerations: “what to compare” and “what to compare to” in the essence of judgement. A great book for Go players.

I really like the content, it is basically what I try to teach. Overall if you have not seen this type of information before it is likely pretty useful. The goal seems to be to teach you how to properly think about your moves before you play them. It should be good for any rank honestly.

About

ScribeGo was founded by Tony Yang and officially released in 2024, with the goal of providing an efficient and easy-to-use platform to study Go by practicing with professional gameplay.

The following year, "The Theory of Go" was authored and published by Tony Yang, with collaboration from professional player and teacher Han Han (5P).

Tony is a student at Chaparral High School in Temecula, California, and a dedicated Go player currently ranked AGA 7 dan. He began playing in 2016 and has since earned numerous accolades, including 3rd place in the 38th World Youth Go Championship, 1st place in the Open Section at both the 2022 and 2023 U.S. Go Congress, and 2nd place in the senior division of the Redmond Cup.

Beyond competition, Tony is passionate about supporting the Go community and promoting the game in the United States. He co-founded his high school’s Go Club, volunteered as a teacher at a local Chinese School, and currently teaches Go every Tuesday night at the San Diego Go Club.
